One of the World ' s leading musicians, New York based acoustic bass player Harvie S has forged a remarkable career over the last 30 years.
An Award Winning performer, composer, producer, bandleader and educator Harvie S cv reads like a "who ' s who" of modern jazz, including work with the likes of Stan Getz, Pat Metheny, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Jim Hall, Michael Brecker, Gil Evans, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims, Joe Lovano and Dave Leibman.
He can be heard on several hundred CDs as a sideman, eight as a leader and another fifteen as a co-leader with such greats as James Brown, Chick Corea, Tony Bennett and Pat Martino.
In the UK he is probably best known for the groundbreaking duo with iconic vocalist Sheila Jordan, with which he toured the world. In the mid 90 ' s Harvie turned his searing talent to the study of Afro-Cuban music which he now incorporates in to his gigs.
The result is a wonderful music that he describes as "Jazz on the Latin side - combining the melodic and harmonic sophistication of jazz with the extraordinary rhythmic intensity of Latin music" .
In addition to his performance career Harvie is an active educator and has been Professor of Bass Studies at The Manhattan School of Music since 1984. He has also been a guest lecturer at The Cologne Hochshule, McGill University , Berklee College of Music, SUNY Purchase, Patterson College , the Eisler School in Berlin , The International Association of Jazz Educators, The Eastman School of Music, The New School and numerous other colleges and universities worldwide.
His latest CD, "Funky Cha" has received rave reviews around the world and it is with enormous pleasure that we welcome this giant of the Bass to the Club this evening.
